One thing that is for certain is that it was based on a guitar riff from a favorite song of Lennon's.
Also in 2016, Minneapolis electro-funk collective Collage charged the writers of "Uptown Funk" with coopting "the main instrumental attributes and themes" of their 1983 song, "Young Girl.
