I guess I'm not pushing the axle in hard enough, it just seems like it is taking quite a bit more effort than my girlfriend's Civic's axle, but idk that was awhile ago. Communicate privately with other Tacoma owners from around the world. Only a small part of the shaft is engaged and you can run for a while. If you did the other side you can probably steal the snap ring from the other old one. I personally like the larger lock rings on the reman axles, you just gotta hit them in harder, but they stay in place a lot better. You'll have to pull it apart and re-install the axle. Hopefully someone with direct experience can chime in. Location: HickiganVehicle: '00 RS/WRX Stg5. Installed trans and all went fine until I got to the passenger side cv axle install, fought and fought without success, finally went and got a different remanufactured axle, still no joy! I just had to reuse the old one (not ideal, but it works). It might be hitting splines at this point. Passenger side CV axle won't go in.
Autozone actually recommended i do that. The splines don't have to be in the same position it came out as, right? Replacing driver's side cv axle, I get it into the transmission just fine, but it won't go into the wheel assembly far enough. It looks like the axle is right at the part where the inner C clip is in the rear diff. Rear axle won't go back into diff. Worked great, and made it embarrassingly easy after all the pushing, prying, and%$&*($#^&ing. Im sure it's as simple as popping the axle off the control arm and just pushing but I can't pop the driver side ball joint off. If you can compress it flat lower than the deep part of the spline I think your job is done. Only burned up one 4" cutting wheel after 2 cuts. Be sure and check that both sides are all the way in so it doesn't happen again. What if only one side slipped out…would that make a difference? I can feel the splines engage and then all progress stops about 3/4" from being in place. I'm the owner of a 1996 automatic shift Honda Accord. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). I have tried 2 different brand new CV axles thinking that the first may have been milled wrong by just a fraction making it not go in. I was pretty convinced I was gonna have to buy new everything, saving bits unfortunately wasn't top of mind. I imagine I need to turn one of the axles to get the transmission shaft matchup To go into place. With the subframe removed I was certain I had enough room to cut the CV shaft on the passenger side and push it through the oil pan.

At this... i had a hell of a time getting mine to "snap" in it turned out to circlips that came with the new axle were alot thicker than the original mpare them.. i ended up using my old clips on the new axle and "snapped" in just like it was supposed to. EDIT: The part I purchased was from rockauto, driver's side CV Axle, (CARDONE 604232 (60-4232)). The grinding when you put it into park is what shows the transmission is getting power.
The wheel that is engaged is not your problem, the one that spins is. I agree, local driving for a few days until I'm convinced it's okay. Another more obscure cause could be something I've seen a couple of times.
Is there a trick to getting it in all the way? I did not check for damage as it came out smoothly so I guess I assumed it was good. To get full-access, you need to register for a FREE account. Anyone else have this issue and found a solution? If you drop the differential, the axles will lower and pull out of the diff.
Once you get the slipping one in properly check your work on the other axle too. New tranny is in and installing stuff on top tonight (Water pump, Pwr steering, A/C, etc). I normally undo the struts and use the hub as a "hammer" to jam the axle in. So, what am I doing wrong?
