It's about time for me to replace mine ejected itself into the trunk lid a few weeks ago. Steptronic Sealbeach740. There's no hatch struts. My trunk won't stay up and get. I bought 1 for $10 and now my trunk works like it should. It is really simple, it was originally made to be for the 7th gen civics because those bars are in the way of any aftermarket speakers, but it could be easily done on the 4th gen civics. I put a luggage rack and it will not stay up. As all of the oil had drained through the seals the shock lacked lubrication and made it really difficult to lift.
When I looked, I didnt see any shocks that would hold it open, but of course I didnt look extensively. Maybe I'll ask the guys at my work tomorrow. My trunk won't stay up meme. As the trunklid raises, these bars rotate and put some tension on the trunklid, keeping it raised. If anyone is interested, I will find the link that gives you a parts list and instructions to just get rid of those bars and use the gas struts, like the hatchbacks use. But at the same time, the trunk doesn't feel like it has any resistance whatsoever.
Anyone know if this is a simple fix or something to do with the electronic mechanism? Ok, i went a looked at mine, one was working the other one was DEAD it did not have a spring. You did check the springs- or does it use pneumatics like the hatchbacks... No pneumatics. As I was installing the stereo in the sedan today, The trunk lid kept falling on my head until I rigged up a latch using a coat-hanger. My trunk won't stay up meaning. Are you familiar with feature that lets you set the hatch open height by manually moving it to the height you want then holding down the hatch button until it beeps?
They seemed like they were in order. These get dirty, break, and just don't spring back up after a while if you don't keep them clean & lubricated. I thought u disappeared for a while. I have seen this before on my Nissan Xterra many years ago. I assume when i press the fob or trunk switch it should open enough so that i can manually open it all the way. I did a rebuild thread on these.... How do you replace the trunk lid lift cylinder? These also just twist to get them out. While you're working on the buffer stops for the the time to check the ones for the hood, too. I got new struts and it does the same thing. Results 1 to 25 of 29. Then they would collapse under the weight of the trunk.
The funny thing is I pulled both off the trunk and it doesn't close itself anymore! I'm not sure how the 4 doors are. Pm, i never knew thats how they blow. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow and let you know for sure. Thats what it sounds like to me. If you pull back the carpeting, you can see a little plastic thingy attatched to the top of the inside of the trunk side, and the bunjee clipped in there nicely.
Yeah, either that, or it would be cool to throw some linear actuators and a trunk pop on there and have it open by itself. Hey I just went and checked out my car.
