Heck, the first few pages of DCeased: War of the Undead Gods takes the biggest hero lost in the apocalypse and puts them back on the board. Starting with the cover, we have a fantastic homage set of variants by Dan Mora that recreate Jim Lee's famous 1991 X-Men number 1. "A greater chaotic force enters the battle, and in so doing threatens reality itself. A "what if" journey limited only by the breadth of the imagination. But what can be worse than what our heroes and villains of the DC Universe have gone through? On Earth-2 Big Barda and Mister Miracle use the Boom Tube to look for Superman but only find Lois Lane. This cover is ideal as we live in an age of advanced solicitations that could take away some surprises from us, but when the concept arrived in the last issue, it was great, leaving you wanting more of him. Of course, what we're really here for is epic cosmic action, and this issue does not disappoint at all—with a crazy, action-packed finale that kills off several major heroes, threatens a whole group more, and creates the most powerful anti-life zombie yet—before pulling possibly the most powerful hero in the DCU off the sidelines at long last. The cure had been discovered, the zombified heroes had all been turned back and the world could finally start recovering. Meanwhile across the stars, Adam Strange fights the unthinkable and the Main Man himself, Lobo, tears his way into DCeased. The detail is stunningly yet hauntingly realistic and I particularly love the green glow around him, it really adds to the effect. While there is one concerning character choice made here I do trust Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine will deliver a powerful conclusion to the narrative they have crafted together.
The preview has given LOLtron the motivation it needs to finally make its move, and it will not rest until it has achieved its goal. How about infected New Gods? What I loved here is the camaraderie between them, this is a team that truly care and love each other. The undead Darkseid begins his assault on the galaxy…attacking Korugar first! Last issue we saw the Guardians of the Universe side against the heroes, choosing to liquidate the infected rather than try to save them. That set of variant comics concludes here, and you could have all four issues together, or, if you're lucky, you could try to see if you can find the 1 in 100 gatefold variant that has the complete piece. Also, what horrors do Big Barda and Mister Miracle find on New Genesis? It's safe to say absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the last 10 pages or so of this issue, I lose count of how many because I turned the pages so fast. Alfred dealing with his failures, guardian vs superman, and a shocking ending.
