It's a shame, because there is some hideously-good talent on the record. It's plain music that tells a story. Mandolin, banjo1, bouzouki3, 7, 8, 10, lead vocals2, 6, 7, 11, harmony vocals 3, 5, 9, songwriter1, 2, 4, 7, arranger11. And to remind listeners of the trio's roots, the tracklist includes two interpretations of traditional songs in "Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Fox, " with the band offering its own infectious, almost poppy arrangement of the latter. Beloved artists like Jason Isbell and Kacey Musgraves, who in another era might have been all but ignored by country gatekeepers, have found a welcoming community and something in the neighborhood of household-name status.
