I also tried putting the old cv axle back in the wheel assembly and it barely comes out the other end at all, even when it's all the way flush in the back. Jimmy my man I greased up the dry difficult one and it went right in! I am going to guess that the splines have slipped out of position and that this is causing the drive axles to get no power. After driving the car for about 1 mile at low speeds (under 25 mph) the car then sounded like it slipped out of gear…The engine would just rev up and not go anywhere. If its on warranty you can buy a new one, install it, bring back the old one, get the warranty replacement, and then return the replacement with your new one's receipt. In several cases I've run across in which a half shaft job or brake job was performed, the nuts not tightened properly, and shortly thereafter the halfshaft splines would strip the splines out of the wheel hub. If you can compress it flat lower than the deep part of the spline I think your job is done. You don't have to give it to them before you order it.

I would chuck up a big drill bit that can just fit with some tape wrapped around to make it snug then turn it say 50-60 rpm like driving slow highway speeds just to make sure it didn't get damaged from the binding and pounding. I did clean the splines of the axle, but perhaps I should have check for damage.

If so, then it's going to get involved. I had suspecdted the circlip so took it off and the axle slid into place, attempted to bend it down a bit but wasn't successful - didn't put it on from the end though so will give that a try. I had this happen on a customer's Accord once before:). Busted the carrier ring off, pushed out the pin from the diff, and finally had access to push instead of pull.
