I think it might be time for a reread soon! Nine years later, a new generation of dragonriders is emerging, children selected and trained on merit, not bloodlines. At the same time, the two only meet because Kazi is on a mission passed down from the main character of the original series, Lia, who readers don't meet until close to the end of DANCE OF THIEVES. Audible cue up my next audiobook thank you please! Love didn't even seem like the right word to explain how I felt about her. Publication Date: August 7th 2018. It's not strictly necessary to read that series first, but it definitely added to my experience, knowing the history behind everything, and I loved seeing characters from that series in this book! I'm sorry I couldnt help myslef! I absolutely loved how the world came alive through that foreign tongue but I imagine it to be really difficult to forge a whole new language. Every character in this spin-off has already captured my heart. Definitely excited to pick up book two! Review: It should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been reading this blog or following me on Twitter for any amount, that I absolutely adore The Remnant Chronicles trilogy.
Two things about Dance of Thieves especially impressed me: Mary's solid and consistent world-building that ties this story to The Remnant Chronicles and the early days of Jase's ancestors just after the devastation (see above) as well as the sheer romance of this story. So you can see L, there are a LOT of different feelings that take hold in the process of writing a book! They were beautiful together, but I wouldn't exactly say this is the typical enemies-to-lovers where they absolutely despise each other. From there, they continue to lie and deceive each other, becoming enemies again, but that doesn't last long. This is everything I love in a fantasy--stellar world building, flawed characters who leap from the page, and high stakes treachery.
However, when a book is unnecessarily long, that is when I have a problem. They are literally handcuffed together and forced to flee the labour hunters that stole and and survive in the wilderness together, whilst still being chained together. Stay tuned for an interview with author Mary E. Pearson from San Diego Comic-Con! I don't think I went into this novel with overly high expectations or was comparing it to my enjoyment to the original trilogy either. There was a purity and honesty in the characters that I don't see or comment on very often, which I felt made this an excellent choice for young adults. It's really really good. I have such mixed feelings, I can't quite tell whether I liked it or not. Kazi and Jase are killer protagonists (literally and figuratively). Dance of Thieves is another beautiful volume in the overarching Remnant Chronicles world, and it flawlessly bridges so many periods of time. Mary E. Pearson Yay for flying through them! And I also know that many are going to say it's instalove-y.
Probably one of my favorite books I've read, if based on the writing skill. Instead, the book focuses on the romance, having the characters passionately kiss and melt into each other every couple scenes, as if the fact that two people are in love puts all morality on hold. Format/Source: ARC, from the publisher. No judgement is given, though it is indicated the queen might "talk" with Synové about the antelope blood, as if her actions deserve a slight reprimand rather than immediate dismissal from the guard. This question contains spoilers... (view spoiler) [This might be a weird question, but our book club read Kiss of Deception, and one of our discussion questions was "did you notice that this is set in a futuristic U. S.? " They call to you in unexpected moments, their hands lacing with yours and pulling you down paths that lead nowhere. Dance of Thieves does not have that problem. YOUR BOOKS ARE MY LIFE). One thing leads to another as events spiral out of control and Jase nd Kazi find themselves in a position them never thought they would be in - together. Our protagonist, Kazi, has been sent by the one and only queen of Venda, Lia (still one of the best ya protagonists out there) to find General Illarium, who we already know (he's the one who betrayed Lia's family and caused the death of her father and brother). Never fear, YES, there is a sequel to Dance of Thieves:) I'm working on it right now. 2⭐ - I did not like it at all!... One soldier is 17-year-old Kazi, formerly "an invisible street rat" of Venda, who honed her consummate thieving skills after her mother was kidnapped into (probable) sex slavery. And after that last anonymous chapter, i dont trust him even more. I personally don't think so, tho.
Furthermore, Kazi and Jase's relationship is unlike all the cliches I originally assumed theirs to play into. But as she interacts with Jase, I saw her soft side<3. To be honest, I'm still not entirely sure where the new country/land is - but I imagine the final book will have a map! I enjoy and devour big books quite regularly ('I like big books and I cannot lie'). Secondly, this series already feels like it has much more of a distinct plot and direction than The Kiss of Deception had. Her favorite activities as a child were climbing tall trees imagining she was a hero in some fantastical world, or running along fence tops and roofs pretending she was a spy with a bagful of amazing gadgets. This book reminded me of why I loved The Kiss of Deception so much. Woke up at 6:15 on a random Thursday morning with the insane urge to read this book, and thank goodness I did because I was definitely missing out.

I mean so many amazing tropes were used here 🥰 Even though it all happened a little fast in terms of page count, I felt like the circumstances that pushed them together still made the romance pacing really believable. I found myself wondering the most about Gwyneth. I love how this series expands and builds upon the original series, but is such a strong standalone story in its own right. Crying because this book was absolute PERFECTION and everything I didn't know I NEEDED IN LIFE😍. I love how even more than TRC, Dance explores the time just after the devastation of the world.
